What is Cosmetic Acupuncture?

It is a method of rejuvenating the face that uses no injections, no surgery and no drugs. Cosmetic Acupuncture is a natural way of helping you stay looking younger for longer.

  • It brings fresh blood to the face and helps the lymph system to drain away waste and toxins.
  • The muscles of the face are stimulated and their tone improved, reducing the harshness and lines.
  • The enhanced blood supply and massage helps facial muscles to regain lost tone and there is often a lifting effect.
  • The face generally looks fresher and the skin improved.
  • In addition, in being treated by a highly trained traditional acupuncturist, you will be guaranteed a treatment that works in harmony with you and supports your individual constitution.

Does cosmetic acupuncture really make a difference?

There is evidence that the Chinese were using facial rejuvenation acupuncture thousands of years ago. Improvements can normally be seen within six to eight sessions.

Why choose facial acupuncture in favour of other methods?

While not a replacement for surgery, acupuncture is an excellent alternative. It is far less expensive than cosmetic surgery and it is safe, virtually painless and has no side effects or risk of disfigurement. Slight temporary bruising can occasionally occur.

Unlike surgery there is no extended recovery period with swelling and discoloration. There is no trauma from Cosmetic Acupuncture and if it does not suit you then you can stop with no ill effects.

Are needles necessary?

No. Other treatment methods can be used to suit the individual, especially for those who have a fear of needles. These methods are generally slower acting.

What is treatment like?

A brief medical history is taken as well as your aims for the treatment. The type of treatment varies according to your particular needs and preferences. You will normally be invited to lie on a couch while fine, sterilized needles are inserted gently into points on your face. In by far the majority of cases this is not painful. An electrical stimulus may be used to minimize the number of needles and to enhance the effects.

Following this, an invigorating Tui Na massage further stimulates the skin muscles of your face. Warming techniques may also be used. Sometimes Argan oil is applied if the skin is dry or damaged. Treatment lasts about 45 minutes. Some patients may also wish to use carefully prescribed herbal remedies.

Is cosmetic acupuncture for everyone?

No. There are various cautions including pacemakers, thyroid problems, blood disorders, damaged blood vessels and general hypersensitivity. However, it may still be possible to use some massage techniques. I will discuss this with you before starting treatment.
